Reda is strengthening its resilience against disinformation. A comprehensive project for seniors is launching soon. In a world where information spreads faster than ever, distinguishing facts from manipulation is increasingly difficult. Our city, in partnership with the Enabler Foundation, is taking decisive action to protect residents. We are launching an extensive educational project, "Choose Clear Communication – Strengthening Seniors' Information Resilience," which addresses one of the key challenges of our time: disinformation.
The project responds to the needs of seniors who struggle to identify false information, lack knowledge of fact-checking tools, and rely primarily on social media and second-hand reports. This creates an environment where myths, conspiracy theories, and manipulation thrive—ranging from health topics to technology and climate issues. Crucially, this struggle with digital facts and myths is not due to a lack of education, but rather "competency exclusion"—a natural decline in information analysis skills within a rapidly changing digital environment.
The project includes an intensive workshop program for 25 seniors, providing comprehensive educational support. A total of 96 hours of classes are planned, divided into four thematic modules: Climate Without Myths, Health Without Risk, Technology Without Fear, and Society Without Divisions. Each module focuses on practical skills and the analysis of real-world examples. Classes will be held at the Hieronim Derdowski Municipal Public Library in Reda, home to the University of the Third Age.
The initiative extends beyond workshops with a broad social campaign titled "Knowledge as a Shield." This includes a "Myth vs. Fact" poster campaign, "safety kits" with instructions on how to handle fraud, and the distribution of educational materials across public institutions. The Enabler Foundation is responsible for the project's implementation, building on its existing educational work in the region.
The project aims to increase seniors' digital and information literacy, improve their sense of security, limit the spread of fake news, and strengthen social integration. Running from June to September 2026, the initiative is fully funded by a donation from the Energa Foundation. "Today, resident safety is not just about infrastructure or health, but also the ability to distinguish truth from manipulation," says Jakub Pilarski, Deputy Mayor of Reda.
