Artificial intelligence for everyone – AI applications in a senior’s everyday life
CompletedProject description
The project “Artificial intelligence for everyone – AI applications in a senior’s everyday life” is a Fundacja Enabler initiative run in partnership with the Spanish organisation CREA 360 SL under the Erasmus+ programme. It responds to seniors’ growing interest in artificial intelligence and their need to explore its practical uses in everyday life.
The project’s main goal is to develop and test a comprehensive educational offer that shows older people how AI works and how technology can support their daily activities – from managing finances, through creating personalised materials (such as fairy tales or recipes), to using digital assistants and health-support tools. In parallel, participants learn about the threats of disinformation and ways to counter them.
The project plans: – the development of 18 practical educational workshops and 4 workshops on disinformation, – a transnational mobility of 16 seniors (8 from Poland and 8 from Spain), who will take part in a six-day series of classes in Alicante, – the involvement of 20 trainers (10 from each organisation) in dissemination activities and in testing the educational materials, – an exchange of experience and good practice between educators from Poland and Spain.
The project involves seniors at risk of social exclusion (for example, people with disabilities, on low incomes or living in poorly connected areas). Thanks to an individualised approach and attention to participants’ needs, the activities are inclusive and meet the “inclusion and diversity” standard.
The project will bring lasting results – the educational materials will be published in three languages (Polish, Spanish and English), and the “Artificial intelligence for everyone” programme will become a permanent part of both organisations’ offers. The initiative will thus help close the educational gap in older people’s use of AI, strengthening their digital competences, independence and sense of safety in the digital world.
The information brochure will be extended with additional materials in the form of a website featuring interactive examples and exercises, as well as guides, checklists and other printable documents. The website will be available at seniorai.fundacjaenabler.pl.
In addition, a project website will be created, documenting the progress and course of the project. It will host the project results and materials useful for dissemination activities, available in three languages: Polish, Spanish and English.
The website will be available at aidlakazdego.fundacjaenabler.pl. The website will be available in English.
Project goal
The project “Artificial intelligence for everyone – AI applications in a senior’s everyday life” was created in response to the real needs of older people, who increasingly want to take an active part in the digital transformation. Its overarching goal is to reduce the digital exclusion of seniors by giving them the knowledge, skills and tools to use AI-based technologies consciously, safely and practically.
The project pursues the following specific objectives:
- Developing an innovative AI education offer for seniors – preparing 18 practical workshops showing everyday applications of AI, such as voice assistants, story generators, household budget management, digital memory albums and virtual travel, – creating materials tailored to people 60+, mindful of learning pace, plain language and an attractive visual form.
- Strengthening the competences of teaching staff, including: involving 20 trainers from Poland and Spain in testing and rolling out the new materials, exchanging good practice in digital education, countering disinformation and working with people with fewer opportunities, and enriching trainers’ toolkits with knowledge of implementing AI in adult education.
- Promoting digital safety and critical thinking, through 4 workshops on the phenomenon of disinformation and methods of recognising it, and strengthening seniors’ digital resilience by teaching conscious use of media and technology.
- Counteracting the social exclusion of seniors, by ensuring the participation of people with fewer opportunities (with disabilities, from rural areas, on low incomes), – promoting equal access to modern technologies and opportunities to use them in practice.
- Strengthening intercultural and intergenerational dialogue, by organising a transnational mobility in Spain with Polish and Spanish seniors, creating a space for international exchange of experience, integration and shared learning.
The project is a pilot, but its results will be long-lasting – both Fundacja Enabler and its partner CREA 360 SL plan to make the educational programme a permanent part of their offers. AI will thus become not only a technological but also a social tool – supporting the independence, growth and wellbeing of people in late adulthood.
Target group
Direct beneficiaries:
- Seniors (60+). The project’s key target group – older people, often at risk of digital, social and communication exclusion. Participants will be recruited in both Poland and Spain. The project puts particular emphasis on the participation of people with fewer opportunities – with disabilities, on low incomes or from rural areas. Recruitment criteria will include economic status, place of residence, disability certificate, transport accessibility and gender balance.
- Adult non-formal education trainers. Educators from Poland and Spain will be involved in testing and rolling out the educational offer. The trainers will represent a range of specialisations – from digital education to cybersecurity and countering disinformation. The project gives priority to people with fewer opportunities among staff as well – for example, educators with disabilities. Trainings and workshops will be adapted to their needs.
Indirect beneficiaries:
- Adult educators and senior trainers. The project results – including 18 practical AI exercises and 4 exercises on disinformation – will be made available free of charge as educational materials in Polish, Spanish and English, enabling their use in other countries and educational settings.
- Institutions active in non-formal education. The results will be promoted on the project website, in the partners’ social media, on EU platforms (EPALE, the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform), and sent to Universities of the Third Age in the Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian voivodeships. They will thus reach a wide range of organisations working with adults and seniors across Europe.
Forms of support
The project comprises a set of complementary activities at local and international level. Their aim is both to develop innovative educational tools for seniors and to ensure the results are effectively put into practice.
Developing the AI and disinformation education programme
In the first stage of the project (January–May 2025), experts and trainers from Poland and Spain will prepare a set of 18 practical workshops presenting everyday applications of artificial intelligence. The programme will be complemented by 4 workshops on disinformation and digital safety. The materials will be created in an accessible way, tailored to older people – taking into account their learning style, technical abilities and cognitive barriers.
Recruiting and preparing participants
In parallel, recruitment activities will target seniors and educators. The recruitment process will apply criteria favouring people with fewer opportunities. Participants will also receive language and cultural preparation before the mobility abroad.
Transnational mobility of seniors
The project’s key event takes place in May 2025 – a six-day educational mobility in Alicante (Spain) with 16 seniors from Poland and Spain. During the stay, participants will attend workshops, get to know the results of the educators’ work, test the educational tools and exchange experiences in an international group.
Testing and implementing the educational materials
In June and July 2025, 20 educators (10 from each organisation) will run a series of workshops in their local communities. The aim is to test the tools in practice and adapt them to the needs of the target groups.
Disseminating the results
The project includes intensive promotion and dissemination activities, including: publishing the educational materials as a handbook and a brochure (PL/ES/EN), promotion on educational platforms (EPALE, the Erasmus+ Results Platform), activity on social media and in local media, and information meetings with educators and stakeholders.
Developing the intellectual outputs – ensuring the project’s sustainability
The project will produce 2 intellectual outputs making up the “Artificial intelligence for everyone – AI applications in a senior’s everyday life” package, including:
- a handbook with 18 practical exercises on using AI in everyday life – “Artificial intelligence for everyone: AI applications in a senior’s everyday life” – for anyone teaching seniors,
- an information brochure for seniors with 4 practical sections on recognising disinformation – “Artificial intelligence for everyone: a senior’s guide to safe AI use” – for people in late adulthood.
The handbook for educators will cover topics including: creating personalised colouring books for grandchildren, digitising and organising recipes, a personalised guide to physical activity and diet for seniors, a guide to creating gifts for various occasions, generating fairy tales and stories for grandchildren, personalised lessons and conversations, building a family tree, a gardening assistant, creating personalised jigsaw puzzles, a personal finance assistant, a health assistant, a virtual AI book club, creating digital memory albums, and AI travel-planning workshops. The handbook will be published in 3 languages: Polish and Spanish (the project languages) and English, to enable dissemination at European level. In line with Programme guidelines, it will carry an open licence (CC BY-SA).
The brochure will include, among other things:
- practical advice on recognising fake news (tips for seniors on spotting AI-generated images),
- advice on protecting your own and your loved ones’ image when using AI,
- rules of safe prompting,
- a section on approaching AI-generated content critically (“still just a machine”).
