Senior Mind Gym 2 – logic and recreation classes for seniors in Gdynia.

As a result of the pandemic, seniors lost the chance for regular social contact and for continuing their hobbies. Social isolation, fear of falling ill and worry about loved ones took a toll on both their physical and mental wellbeing. What is needed is the social reintegration of people aged 55+ and conditions for working on their skills and hobbies. The classes planned in the project will stimulate seniors mentally – vitally important, because staying intellectually active delays the ageing process and helps people remain independent for longer.

Classes will be held in groups – seniors will have the chance to make new friends and work together across health and economic divides.

The themes of the support will be tailored to the needs of the target group.

In addition, some activities – a city game and visits to the Science Centre and the Science Museum – will take place outdoors, giving seniors an opportunity for physical activity and active integration with their peer group.

The main goal of the project is to strengthen key mathematical competences in 20 project participants aged 55+ (10 women, 10 men, including 5 people with a disability certificate) through participation in logic-and-maths workshops.

The main goal responds to the need to stimulate seniors mentally after the period of social isolation.

The project will support 20 people aged 55 and over, including at least 5 people with a disability certificate – 10 women and 10 men. The target group lives in Gdynia.

The project comprises the Senior Mind Gym workshop series, consisting of:

• 5 three-hour THINK LOGICALLY workshops for each of the two groups of seniors,
• 3 two-hour NOT JUST SUDOKU workshops for each of the two groups of seniors,
• the SENIORS, READY, GO! city game for each of the two groups.
